Prometheus: Pilot chamber platform
inspired by Warhammer 40,000 illustration?

leading from

a) In an illustration from the rule book for Warhammer 40,000 released in October 1987, a character who is the emperor is placed upon life support machine upon a circular island like platform in the throne room with stairs running down the side. Here it was surrounded by mist. In England this game was big on the game playing scene being published by Games Workshop that with Citadel would sell intricately designed lead miniatures based on elaborate illustrations. The game may well have inspired the techno medieval look of the 1997 movie Event Horizon

Emperor of Mankind possibly by Dave Andrews for Warhammer 40,000, (1987)

b) Somehow this idea of a biomechanoid island crossed over into Prometheus. Perhaps the ribbing on the upper arching columns has inspired the choice of ribbing on the wall.

c) The drawing the surface details on the domed platform seem much as the ones on the flat topped platform in Prometheus as if they were surface details in the icing of an elaborate cake. Back in the 1980s, wargames and roleplaying games were a bit more important than they are now. The first Warhammer 40,000 book was interesting stuff when it first came out actually and especially with its dark faux-Giger-esque black and white drawings and the illustration that I've made a comparison to was good humoured with the character on a drip and having electrodes stuck into him.
